Art therapist statement

As an art therapist and artist, I am influenced by interactions with environments and the clients who live and work in them. My work often addresses the effects of isolation and oppression on mental wellbeing, as it plays out both individually and collectively. Additionally, my work explores the human physical state and its complicated relationship with environments. I am also constantly exploring new methods of creative visual expression that I can introduce to people who have been pushed to the margins of society. I find that art can provide a means for amplifying the voices and perspectives of persons who have experienced social stigma, chronic pain, and mental health concerns. I approach my therapeutic practice with a trauma-informed, humanistic orientation that is relational and takes into account the complex effects on people of the social systems they encounter.
